“I believe in Christ like I believe in the sun—not
because I can see it, but by it I can see everything else” –C.S. Lewis
This is not just a simple analogy, but it is a way to walk out your life. I believe
CS Lewis said this in order for us to remember to view things as God would view
them. My desire with my relationship with God is to have it be so strong that
in all things of this world I choose to look beyond just what is seen, but to
look for God in creation, others, ourselves, and even in everyday actions. In 2
Corinthians 4:18, Paul says, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18, NIV). Paul says this for us to know that what matters in this world are the
things we cannot see. The love we share or the beauties in a sunset are the
things in this life that may not be seen firsthand, but they are the things that
bring Glory to our God in Heaven.
This is such an important way to view things is because the seen is only the
materialistic view, which leads to a greedy lifestyle. In viewing the seen,
many tend to get caught up being overly zealous for certain things that are
just of this world. The things that matter are the unseen things that transcend
time. God wants us to focus on someone’s personality, the beautiful creation
surrounding us that God made, and selfless actions taking place each day. These
are the meaningful things that make life worthwhile, and they allow you to be a
disciple of Christ. Instead of focusing on the things of the flesh, we should FOCUS
on CHRIST’s love and the heart of Christ in each person. Truly take the time to
see the God in others and God working in this world. His kingdom is the one
that transcends time, and everyday we should take on the challenge of bringing
Heaven down to this Earth.
